I received a call from a female amish miller who suggested I pick up some older dogs she no longer wanted. One dog was a 11 year old female shithzu. Of course she was debarked by this woman miller and looked kind of limp or lethargic. After being vetted, it was concluded that this poor dogs' jaw was broken and its bone was in pieces due to the rotting teeth infection that traveled to her jaw bone and ate away at her jaw until it just broke into pieces. Because all her teeth had to be extracted there was no hope for Kayla. She was put to sleep and was only free for 5 days. Until her last breath, she wagged her tail just showing how forgiving she was. I felt the need to share this story because it sickens me to watch one dog after another live such a painful, traumatized life. I have been blessed by rescuing mill dogs since August and I have rescued 7O dogs, most who have been adopted. This was my first one that had to be put down. My life has never been the same since I started rescuing. A part of me was ripped out and can never be replaced. I have seen neglect and abuse that is so unecessary for these dogs to endure and yet no one does anything about stopping puppymills. Kayla was born happy, curious and loving, just like all puppies are born. She deserved the chance to stay happy and loving but someone took that chance away from her for 11 years(her whole life). She deserves to have her story told to people because even though she meant nothing for so long, she meant something to me in such a short time knowing her. I hope she is free running with the other mill victims in heaven. Run with the angels, my dear Kayla. Laura Rescued on 1/6/06 Died on 1/11/06 |
