Bacon Biscuits

Yield: 40 servings
5 c Whole wheat flour
1 c Milk
2 Eggs
10 tb Vegetable oil or bacon fat
1 pn Onion or garlic powder
1 ts Salt
1/2 c Cold water
1 tb Vegetable oil or bacon fat***
Original recipe didn't say why this was listed but I suspect this last tbsp. is to grease cookie sheet with.
Mix all ingredients well. Pinch off pieces of the dough and roll them into two-inch balls.

***SEE NOTE. Put them on a greased cookie sheet. Bake them at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Let them cool, then store in an airtight container.

Puppy Stew

8-9 chicken thighs (because it's only one bone in there - easy to de-
bone)
3-5 chicken livers (eeeuww gross)
1 yellow squash (you can use fresh or frozen)
2 small zuccini (ditto)
4 carrots (or frozen or canned low salt)
2 stalks celery
handful of green beans (frozen, fresh or canned)
handful of sweet peas (same as above)
few pieces of broccoli (frozen usually)
two spoonfuls of parsley
two spoonfuls of minced garlic
enough water to cover stuff in large pot
let simmer slow boil for 2 hours
while taking bones and skin off of thighs, dump in two cups of whole
oats (old fashioned oatmeal)
toss meat back in and let simmer with lid for about 15 minutes
using a handmixer type of thing.. mix it all up in the pot -- looks
like mush :-)
dump into a few bowls and toss in fridge, or smaller bowls and
freezer.
Makes LOTS

The canned version is 2.50 or so an average size can. This saves
money, and depending on now many dogs you have will last at least a
week.

Paw Print Biscuits

1 1/4 teaspoons brewer's yeast (available at health food stores)
2 tablespoons warm water (110 degrees Fahrenheit)
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup rye flour
1/2 cup cornmeal. plus more for dusting
1/4 cup nonfat dry milk
1 cup beef broth
1 egg, well-beaten, for basting

1. Heat oven to 300 degrees. Combine brewer's yeast and water in a small bowl; let sit till creamy, about 5 minutes. In the large bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a dough hook mix dry ingredients with yeast mixture and broth for 2 minutes on medium speed. Alternatively, combine ingredients in a large bowl with a wooden spoon, bring together with your hands and knead until dough comes together. Knead on a floured surface for 3 minutes more until dough stiffens.

2. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut out rounds. You can reroll this dough once. Baste the rounds with beaten egg, then dust with cornmeal.

3. Make a paw print in each round using your thumb for the large pad of the paw and your pinky finger for the digits. Place biscuits on a baking sheet. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until deep golden.

Just remember, these are treats and are not a substitute for food. Just like humans, dogs will get fat if they consume excessive quantities of treats.
