"My Special Angel"

I remember when I got you. You were advertised in the paper as a stray. I called to see if I could get you if no one claimed you. You were around 2 1/2 or 3 years old and you had the weirdest tail. It looked like a feather duster. But you were so loving and cuddly. I fell in love with you. One of your favorite things was to be rocked in a rocking chair. You sat on my lap like a little kid. Several months later I found Mischif and you had a friend to play with. The two of you would play tug and romp all over together. Then the unexpected- He was only 4 months old & he decided you needed to become a mother. Well that was a mistake as you did not want anything to do with the pups after they were born. It was the only thing I remember in 17 years that you did wrong.

Over the years I have lots of beautiful memories of you. You were so patient . I would put food in a dish and if someone else came to the dish you would take a mouthful and go to another spot, put it on the floor and eat it. Then go over and sit and wait patiently til they were done so you could have some more.
You were everyone's friend and loved everybody. I never heard you growl at anyone or anything. You use to go around the neighborhood to visit. If anyone's door was open you would go right in. You were known as the neighborhood pet.
At Christmas you 'd sniff all the packages to see which one was yours. I would show you and on Christmas eve I'd say OK Cuddles get your present and you would know which one and run to get it. Like a little kid- You Loved Christmas.
I use to say "Cuddle Dum Cuddle Dum Cuddle Dum Dum Dum" and you got all excited & wanted to play.

Several years ago you started bleeding and you were at the vets for a week on medication and had a blood transfusion. The vet said he didn't have much hope & I visited every nite. Then he called me & said you fully recovered over nite. He always said you were a "tough ol bird".

You were a perfect Angel all the years and the best behaved dog I ever had. I will always love you and you will stay in my heart forever.

I wrote this in April of 2000

 

Cuddles was a stray in 1985. She was 2 1/2 years old. She loved to be rocked in a rocking chair. She has been the best behaved dog I have had. She waits her turn at the food dish, but has learned to grab a bite in between & put it on the floor so she doesn't have to wait.

She was the proud mother of six puppies. Mischief was the daddy. Two went to good homes and the other four we kept. Their stories on the site.

Several years ago I almost lost her as she started bleeding. She had to have blood transfusions and we didn't think she would make it. But she is a fighter and she pulled through. Over the years she has had several operations for tumors.

She use to go on daily visits up & down the street. She would stop at every open door & visit. I would call her and someone would yell "She's down here". All the neighbors loved her. She was the neighborhood Welcome Dog.

She's getting old now (17 1/2 years) and I dread the day she
leaves. But she has been a precious friend & I know I will see her again.
