Cat Grooming

                      You're gonna WHAT???

Yes your cat needs grooming too!
I know they wash themselves But------

What about their teeth?
Do you know that buildup of plaque can cause periodontal
disease? , an infection that can spread through the blood
stream to the heart, liver and kidneys.

Bad Breath and yellow teeth can be a serious gum disease.

After the age of three- this affects 80 percent of all dogs
and cats. It starts as plaque and leads to tooth decay,
bleeding gums, and can even damage the heart and
other organs.

Below are the three steps to take:

1. Get a dental exam and if need be a cleaning.
2. Start brushing and follow a nutritious diet.
3. Take Friskie for regular check-ups.

Now for extra steps:
4. Do not feed sugary foods (especially those not made for
   animals.
5. Make sure they get hard kibbles to help clean the plaque.

So--- Start brushing!!!!!

As for The kitty who grooms himself

                                   Every wondered why?

A cats tongue has comb like spines on their tongues.
They use their dew claw on their paws to get their head
and ears. By grooming they remove dead hairs and skin
cells. When they lick their fur it stimulate the skin glands
which puts off a oil film to waterproof their coat.

                                  Grooming serves two purposes.

                                      1. Because they do not sweat - the saliva from the coat acts
to keep them cool in hot weather.

                                 2. When there are two or more cats it helps them to bond
when they lick each other.

If you cat stops grooming --it's vet time.
Normally this is a sign they are not feeling well.
They may have sore gums, ulcers, or arthritis in the neck
                             among other possibilities.
