Hi!!

My name is Derrick.

I am a 2-3 yr old Beagle/cattle dog.

I was in a shelter in WV & my foster mom feel in love with me & felt so sorry for me being there so she said she would take me in.

I will be up for adoption but not quite yet. You see who ever owned me put a rubber band around my neck when I was just a baby. They never took it off and as I grew it got embedded in my neck really bad. They had to cut it out. It really hurt but I was a special boy- just sit there & let them do what they had to do cause I knew they were going to make me better. I didn't even snap or growl at them. It has to be cleaned several times a day but it is starting to heal. Once I get all better then I can find me a forever home. I want someone who will love me to pieces as I haven't had much of a life up to now.

My foster mom says she will update my page here as she gets to know me a little better.

A poem to my foster dog

I am the bridge Between what was and what can be. I am the pathway to a new life.

I am made of mush, Because my heart melted when I saw you, Matted and sore, limping, depressed, Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love.

For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand I will love you with my whole heart I will make you whole.

I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, When you are well, and sleek, When your eyes shine, And your tail wags with joy Then comes the hard part. I will let you go--not without a tear, But without a regret. For you are safe forever-- A new dog needs me now.

Hey Honey- I'm Home!!!

Well he is here. Skinny little runt. Just precious.

His neck is looking great- Good Job Mason!!!!!

He is the sweetest baby. So loving and I can tell he likes the rest of the family. Not sure about them yet. But time will tell.

He does not like being alone in the room. and it's only 3 feet from me. He wants company and once he can be out with the rest I am sure he will be fine.

Play he loves to play. Throws his ball up in the air & he can catch it too. No accidents. Waits to go out.

This is one very very special baby. He also likes to be cuddled. Finally one I can pick up & hold. Yipee!!

He will make someone a very special companion.

More later- I have only known him a couple hours.

BUT

I Love Him Already!!!

Update: 10/18/05

Well he's part of the family now.

Gets along really great with the rest. Definatly has the cattle dog personality.

Loves to run & play. Romps with my Scruffy & full of energy. Listens pretty good for the short time he's been here. Hates a crate and being alone but otherwise he is a terrific little guy.
